Almost US$73 mln to be allocated from budget for snap parliamentary elections in Ukraine

Some UAH 1.947 billion, or almost US$73 million, is to be allocated from Ukraine's national budget for snap parliamentary elections on July 21, 2019.

"The State Treasury is backing the elections. Under the budget program, UAH 1.947 billion, or US$72.98 million, has been allocated for holding the parliamentary elections," head of the State Treasury Service of Ukraine Tetiana Slyuz said during a meeting on public procurements of the Central Election Commission (CEC) for the early parliamentary elections.

According to her, UAH 300,000, or US$11,244, should be transferred to the CEC accounts on May 30 or May 31 for public procurements to ensure the electoral process.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Volodymyr Zelensky officially became President of Ukraine on May 20, 2019. During his swearing-in speech, he announced the dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, and called on the Ukrainian government to resign.

On May 23, Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman submitted a letter of resignation to the Verkhovna Rada. Also, on May 23, the presidential decree on the dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada and the appointment of early elections came into force. The snap parliamentary elections are to take place on July 21.
