Ukrainian farmers have completed the 2019 grain sowing campaign, the total area under crops is 27.7 million hectares.

"According to preliminary information, the total area under crops in all categories of farms for the 2019 harvest is about 27.7 million hectares, which was at the level of 2018. Grain crops have been sown on 14.8 million hectares, while technical crops occupy 9.2 million hectares, which was also at last year's level. The structure of the sown areas in recent years has been optimized but has not changed significantly," Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry's press service said.
Given the progress of spring field work and the condition of winter crops, we can expect that the harvest of early grain in 2019 will not be lower than that in the past year, the press service said, referring to Deputy Minister of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine Volodymyr Topchiy.
As UNIAN reported, Ukrainian farmers on May 2 completed a campaign to sow early spring crops on 2.1 million hectares.
In 2018, Ukraine harvested a record high yield of grain, having threshed 70.1 million tonnes.
The Ukrainian Weather Forecast Center earlier reported that spring grain crops in some of Ukraine's western regions needed to be re-sown as the bad weather had damaged them.
Experts also predicted the yield of grain in Ukraine in 2019 might shrink by 2.4% from 2018, to 68.4 million tonnes.
