Chairman of the National Council for Economic Development of Ukraine Oleksiy Doroshenko says the prices of vegetables from the borsch kit have significantly increased and the country's vegetable market requires regulation and planning a few years ahead.

The first problems with the borsch vegetable kit in Ukraine emerged at the beginning of 2018, when prices of carrots and beets grew by 70%-80% within one month and continued to rise, the expert said, as reported by Ukrainian online news outlet Obozrevatel.
Doroshenko says the prices of carrot reached peak in June last year, when its cost exceeded the price of bananas by half.
According to the expert, this year the situation is repeated. However, it was aggravated by the fact that certain categories of vegetables became unavailable in Ukraine. Vegetable imports in haste with overpayment for the urgency of both the products and their delivery resulted in "stratospheric prices" for the end-consumer.
Doroshenko stressed the view that the market does not need to be regulated is erroneous and suggested to look at the experience of Canada and the European Union states where planning takes place a few years ahead. But the quality of such planning is much higher than that in the USSR, the expert added.
