Ukraine's Finance Ministry pays off US$8.6 bln in debt in Jan-May

Almost half, or 48% of annual debt payments, has been performed.

The Ministry of Finance of Ukraine in January-May 2019 provided debt payments worth UAH 231.2 billion (US$8.6 billion), including UAH 176.2 billion ($6.54 billion) in repayment of the public debt and UAH 55 billion ($2.04 billion) in debt servicing.

According to the data published on the ministry's website on the projected debt payments for 2019, which as of June 1 totaled UAH 481.55 billion ($17.9 billion), almost half, or 48% of annual debt payments, has been carried out over the five months.

The government borrowings in January-May 2019 stood at UAH 182.2 billion ($6.8 billion), including UAH 155.5 billion ($5.8 billion) from the placement of government bonds.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine's state and government-guaranteed debt, estimated in U.S. dollars, grew by 1.9%, to $79.82 billion, in January-April 2019. The debt in the hryvnia equivalent over the period under review shrank by 2% to UAH 2.125 trillion ($78.9 billion).
