The National Bank noted that the reduction in the reserves in May 2019 was due to significant debt repayments in foreign currency, which stood at US$1.8 billion that month.

Contrary to the peak of debt repayments, the situation in the financial market remained stable, which allowed the regulator to replenish reserves by purchasing over US$160 million.

As UNIAN reported, Ukraine's international reserves at the beginning of May 2019 were estimated at US$20.525 billion, which was 0.5% lower than a month earlier. In 2018, the reserves expanded by 10.6% to US$20.820 billion, updating five-year highs.
