"We built 6,800 km of roads in 2017-2018. It can be said that much less was done in the previous ten years," he said at a government meeting on June 12.

At the same time, the prime minister said that the task for 2019-2021 is to link the country's all regional centers by overhauled roads.

According to Groysman, the government's road strategy provides for normal road service between district and regional centers with further development and access to transnational highways.

"These are the ideology and strategy we embrace. We'll be implementing them," he said.

The official added that, among other things, the highways Lviv–Ternopil, Ternopil–Khmelnytsky, Odesa–Reni, Kyiv–Kharkiv–Dovzhanske, and Dnipro–Reshetylivka were repaired in the past two years.

As UNIAN reported earlier, about UAH 20 billion ($758 million) will be allocated for the construction, reconstruction and overhaul of public roads of state importance in 2019 from the total amount of UAH 34.4 billion ($1.3 billion) envisaged by the Road Fund for such roads.

In total, over UAH 50 billion ($1.9 billion) is earmarked in the budget for repairs and construction of roads of local and state importance, which is a record amount over Ukraine's independence.
