Ukrzaliznytsia plans to restore railway services with Donbas – media

Ukrainian state-owned railway operator Ukrzaliznytsia (Ukrainian Railways) says the company's strategy until 2023 includes the possibility of restoring railway services with Donetsk and Luhansk regions, eastern Ukraine, which were halted in March 2017.

On June 12, Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers backed the relevant resolution that has not yet been published, the Ukrainian news outlet LIGA.net reported on June 18.

If the ban is lifted, the volume of coal transportation to Donetsk and Luhansk regions in 2021 will reach 40% (of the volumes reported in 2016), while the share of iron ore will be 30%, and that of ferrous metals will stand at 15%.

Cargo transportation is expected to double by 2030, it said.

Ukrzaliznytsia also plans to create Vokzalna Company before the end of 2019.
