Ukraine among three major exporters of poultry to EU – experts

Experts at Kyiv-based Pro-Consulting LLC say Ukraine in January-April 2019 was among the three major exporters of poultry to the European Union, having boosted its exports by 11.9% year-over-year (y-o-y), to 43,300 tonnes.

"According to the report, Ukraine holds the third position among the countries exporting poultry to the EU," the company's press service said on June 21, referring to the statistical data of the European Commission.

Experts said that the growth in Ukrainian poultry exports to the EU became possible thanks to the high quality of the Ukrainian produce, as well as the expansion of domestic production. In addition, the European Union in 2017 partially suspended poultry imports from Brazil, which allowed Ukrainian producers to substantially increase their share in the European market.

At the same time, the current quotas are a restraining factor in increasing the said shipments to the European Union, press service added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, exports of poultry and by-products from Ukraine in 2018 in physical terms grew by 21.2%, to 328,900 tonnes and by 30% in monetary terms, to US$506.6 million, according to the State Fiscal Service of Ukraine.
