Buckwheat is one of affordable food staples in Ukraine.
An expert forecasts a sharp increase in prices of Ukrainian buckwheat in the coming months.
"The price of buckwheat will be UAH 20-21, or US$0.76-0.80, per kg and higher," Chairman of the Ukrainian Association of Retail Chain Suppliers Oleksiy Doroshenko said, according to the TV news service TSN.ua.

Buckwheat will go up in price because areas under this type of crops have shrunk in Ukraine, he said.
Yet, the price of imported buckwheat will remain unchanged and it will cost less than Ukrainian buckwheat.
What is more, the expert forecasts that the prices of wheat and some vegetables, namely onions and cabbage, will decline.
In August 2019 alone, prices of vegetables will fall by about 67% compared to prices recorded this spring.
As was reported earlier, Ukraine has imported 7,340 tonnes of buckwheat since the beginning of the year.
Buckwheat is a popular type of cereals in Ukraine; it is of social importance as one of affordable food staples. It is served as a separate meal (buckwheat porridge) or a side dish (the same as rice or potato). It is widely used in the production of bread and pasta. A soup or pancakes made of buckwheat are also popular in Ukraine.
