Growth of industrial output in Ukraine slows to 1.6% in May

The production of computers, electronic and optical equipment demonstrated the highest growth in May 2019.

The growth of industrial production slowed to 1.6% in May 2019 year-over-year (y-o-y) from 5.2% in April 2019 y-o-y, without calendar adjustment.

Adjusted to the effect of calendar days, the industrial output growth in May slowed to 0.6% y-o-y from 4.4% in April y-o-y, according to the Ukrainian State Statistics Service website.

The industrial production dropped by 0.5% in May 2019 from April 2019, without adjustment for the effect of calendar days, or by 0.8% with such adjustment.

The highest increase in industrial output in May 2019 y-o-y was recorded in the production of computers, electronic and optical equipment (by 35.6%), the extraction of hard and brown coal (by 6.8%), and the chemical industry (by 6.7%).

The largest decline in annual terms was recorded in the manufacture of electrical equipment (by 25.5%), the manufacture of vehicles (by 9%), and textile industry (by 8.2%).

The report does not include information from temporarily occupied areas in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, and certain areas in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, it said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the growth of industrial production accelerated to 5.2% in April 2019 y-o-y without calendar adjustment from 2.1% in March y-o-y.

In 2018, Ukraine saw a 1.1% growth in industrial production after a 0.1% decline in 2017.
