The signing of the manifesto was a part of the General Assembly and the annual FORATOM Conference "Nuclear Europe 2019" held in the city of Bucharest, Romania, on June 25-26, 2019. FORATOM Director General Yves Desbazeille and Director-General of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) William D. Magwood, IV, as well as the EU Commission's Deputy Director-General for Energy Thomas Gerassimos and Principal Deputy Assistant Secretary for Nuclear Energy at the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) Edward McGinnis delivered their speeches at the event.

Leaders of the EU nuclear industry say their main goal is to unite the efforts of the European Union and the high-tech European nuclear industry for joint work to achieve the global objectives of the Paris Agreement to prevent climate changes in their commitments to reduce CO2 emissions and achieve a decarbonised Europe by 2050.

In particular, the manifesto was signed by CEOs of such large enterprises of the nuclear industrial complex as: Ansaldo Nucleare, CEA, CEZ Group, EDF, EDF Energy, Energoatom, Engie Electrabel, Fennovoima, Fortum, Framatome, Kozloduy NPP, MVM Group, Nuclear Industry Association, National Nuclear Laboratory, Nuclearelectrica, Orano, swissnuclear, Synatom, Tecnatom, TVO, Uniper Sweden, Urenco, Vattenfall, Westinghouse.

The signatories of the manifesto pledged to help overcome the challenges facing the European Union. In addition to the continued construction, operation, support and decommissioning of nuclear reactors and other nuclear facilities in full compliance with the requirements of nuclear regulation and international standards, the nuclear industry seeks to provide the necessary amount of nuclear power on time and at competitive prices, according to the latest forecasts for the share of nuclear energy in the future low carbon energy complex.

The European Atomic Forum (FORATOM) is the Brussels-based trade association for the nuclear energy industry in Europe. The membership of FORATOM is made up of 15 national nuclear associations. FORATOM represents nearly 3,000 European companies working in the industry, which supports around 1,100,000 jobs in the European Union.
