"I confirm that there can be no price hikes for commercial consumers, except for that, which is defined by [Ukraine's National Energy and Utilities Regulatory Commission] NEURC. We've adopted all government resolutions in this regard. And the market started to function. Moreover, the price has not increased. And many commercial consumers say that the price for many items has even dropped," he said at a government meeting on July 5.

Since July 1, the energy market has been operating within limitations and price restrictions that were set by resolutions of the government and the regulator, the prime minster added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, a new electricity market was launched in Ukraine on July 1 under the Electricity Market Law, the draft of which was passed by the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, in April 2017. The law provides for the introduction of more competitive relations in the energy market, and meets the requirements of the European Union's Third Energy Package. The new model provides for the introduction of such segments as the market of bilateral contracts, the day-ahead and intraday markets, as well as the balancing energy market.
