Ukraine off TOP20 highest inflation ranking

At the same time, Ukraine remains the state with the highest inflation among European countries.

Ukraine is no longer among the TOP20 countries which have the highest inflation rate, the expert platform of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) reported, citing data from the State Statistics Service.

Stats say inflation in Ukraine in June 2019 in annual terms was at 9%, slowing down from 9.6% in annual terms a month earlier.

"With an indicator of 9% yoy, our country ranks 22-24 in this indicator. At the same time, Ukraine remains the state with the highest inflation among European countries," NBU experts wrote on Facebook.

The group stressed that the 0.5% decline in prices in Ukraine in June against the previous month occurred for the first time in 11 months, and was caused by the seasonal cheapening of vegetables and eggs.

Also, the slowdown in the general consumer price growth in Ukraine was influenced by the government’s decision to change the gas pricing mechanism for the households.

According to the NBU, the highest inflation in the world is observed in Venezuela at 282,972.8%. Zimbabwe ranks second with 97.9%. In Argentina, South Sudan, North Korea and Iran, inflation in June was over 50%.

Ukraine's nearest neighbors on the list are Malawi, Sao Tome and Principe, and Eritrea.

As UNIAN reported earlier, citing the State Statistics Service, inflation in Ukraine in June 2019 was 9% yoy, slowing from 9.6% yoy a month earlier.

The state budget of Ukraine for 2019 is based on a macroeconomic forecast with real GDP growth of 3% and inflation at 7.4%.

The National Bank of Ukraine predicts in 2019 a slowdown in inflation to 6.3%, while the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank believe it will slow down to 7.3%.
