The price of gas will be $248 per 1,000 cubic meters in Ukraine’s latest gas deal with Russia, with the rest of the deal’s terms fully complying with the "winter package,” the press office of the Ministry of Energy has reported.
"This is a triumph of an economically sound approach to the relationship between Naftogaz and Gazprom over a political [approach]," the Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchyshyn said, commenting on the signing of the agreement.
"We have received an economically reasonable market price, which is lower than the price of gas reverse supplies from European countries. This time the deal covers only the second quarter. However, it will not only allow us to begin stockpiling gas for autumn-winter period, but also create the format of relations in the future.
“The next round of gas talks on long-term agreement for the period until the end of the heating season 2015-2016 is planned to take place in Berlin in April, and we plan to agree on the same pricing formula."
