NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy has paid a first tranche of $30 million to Russian gas monopoly Gazprom as an advance payment for the supply of natural gas under the new agreement signed on April 1, the press service of Naftogaz reported on Friday, according to an UNIAN correspondent.
"Yesterday we paid $30 million," the company said.
As UNIAN reported earlier, in the evening of April 1, Naftogaz and Gazprom signed a three-month agreement for the supply of Russian gas to Ukraine at a price of $248 per 1,000 cubic meters.
According to Ukrainian Energy Minister Volodymyr Demchyshyn, the average price of gas supplied from Europe for Ukraine today is about $270 per 1,000 cubic meters.
"Ukraine will continue purchasing gas in the European market, despite the decline in the price for Russian fuel," he said.
