Ukraine sees 37.5% rise in gas imports in seven months

Ukraine imported 7.59 bcm of natural gas over the period under review.

Ukraine saw a 37.5% rise in imports of natural gas January through July 2019 compared to the same period of 2018, by 2.01 billion cubic meters (bcm) to 7.59 bcm.

Over the period under review, Ukraine imported natural gas from Europe only, the operator of Ukraine's gas transport system, Ukrtransgaz, said.

In particular, January through July this year, some 4.65 bcm of gas came via the Slovak gas transport corridor; 0.84 bcm and 2.1 bcm were bought in Poland and Hungary, respectively, according to Ukrtransgaz.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine reduced imports of natural gas by 24.6%, or by 3.46 bcm, to 10.59 bcm in 2018 compared to 2017.

Ukraine late in November 2015 stopped buying natural gas from Russia's Gazprom.
