Greece says it will fulfill all obligations to creditors

Greece "intends to meet all obligations to all its creditors, ad infinitum," Greek Finance Minister Yanis Varoufakis said on Sunday, trying to dispel default fears ahead of a big loan payment by Athens, according to Reuters.

The most urgent debt for Greece is a EUR 450 million loan repayment to the IMF due this Thursday.

After meeting with the head of the International Monetary Fund, Varufakis told reporters that the Greek government plans to "reform Greece deeply" and would seek to improve "the efficacy of negotiations" with its creditors.

Greece has not received bailout funds since August last year and resorted to measures such as borrowing from state-owned enterprises to survive. Last week, it offered its creditors a new reform program, hoping to unlock the funds, but has not yet received approval from the IMF and the European Union.

IMF Managing Director Christine Lagarde said in a statement after meeting with Varoufakis that she welcomed his confirmation that the loan payment would be made on schedule.

She said that attempts to conduct a comprehensive analysis of the Greek situation and the negotiations in Brussels concerning the conditions of financial aid to Greece, would "resume promptly on Monday."
