CEO of Ukrainian national railways company PJSC Ukrzaliznytsia Yevhen Kravtsov has said the company plans within five years to increase its share in the freight car market by 10%, from current 40% to 50%.

"Now our fleet of freight cars accounts for about 40% of the market. We plan to increase the share to 50% in five years," he told UNIAN on August 12.

According to the official, Ukrzaliznytsia has 2,800 sleeping cars in operation, and this figure should be constant.

"The priority is the transition to high-speed traffic. We will work with unprofitable [railroad] infrastructure to reduce costs in inefficient areas," he added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrzaliznytsia in 2018 updated its fleet by more than 3,500 cars, which was a record high for the country's railway department over the past 25 years.
