Natural gas consumption in Ukraine fell by 10.4% in March 2015 compared to the same month last year, to 3.537 billion cubic meters, according to a statement by state oil and gas company Naftogaz Ukrainy.
As noted by the company, gas consumption limits were exceeded by 16% by industry, communal energy companies and budget-financed institutions.
"These categories used 2,033 million cubic meters of gas against the planned volume of 1.748,7 million cubic meters," Naftogaz said in a statement.
Gas consumption by the population amounted to 1.503 billion cubic meters in March, down by 13% compared to the same period last year.
The total volume of gas consumption in the country in 2015 is projected at about 40 billion cubic meters, according to the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine.
Overall, at the end of 2014 Ukraine reduced natural gas consumption by 16%, down from 50.4 billion cubic meters last year to 42.6 billion cubic meters.
