Grains, oilseeds harvest in Ukraine may set new record in MY 2019-2020

The Ukrainian Grain Association raised the forecast for the harvest of grains and oilseeds in the 2019-2020 marketing year from 94.7 to 95.1 million tonnes.

The Ukrainian Grain Association (UGA) has revised upwards its forecast for the harvest of grains and oilseeds in the 2019-2020 marketing year (MY, July 2019-June 2020) from 94.7 million tonnes to 95.1 million tonnes.

"In its August 2019 forecast compared to the May one, UGA projects a new record high harvest [of the crops]: an increase in the production of grains and oilseeds from 94.7 million tonnes to 95.1 million tonnes, while their exports may grow from 56.9 million tonnes to 58.1 million tonnes," the Association's press service said on August 12.

The forecast changed with regard to all crops, the report said.

In particular, the wheat harvest may drop to 27.7 million tonnes against 28.9 million tonnes projected in May. However, wheat exports may reach 21 million tonnes against the previously forecasted 20 million tonnes.

In addition, the barley yield may grow to 8.6 million tonnes from the previously projected 8.4 million tonnes, while its exports may decline to 4.7 million tonnes.

The most optimistic expectations remain for the harvest and exports of maize, which may reach 34.5 million tonnes and 27 million tonnes, respectively.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian Grain Association President Mykola Gorbachov, at a press conference in June, said that the association forecast a 2.2% increase in the harvest of grains and oilseeds in MY 2019-2020, to 94 million tonnes.

In 2018, Ukraine harvested a record high yield of grains, having threshed 70.1 million tonnes, according to the agrarian ministry.
