Deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in H1 estimated at US$1.6 bln

The deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in January-June 2019 (H1) was estimated at US$1.619 billion, which is 1.7 times higher than the deficit for the same period of 2018, which was US$977.6 million.

Imports of goods and services to Ukraine over this period grew by 7.9% to US$31.164 billion, while exports rose by 5.9%, to US$29.544 billion, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine said on its website.

In particular, the deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods increased by 1.4 times, to US$3.736 billion. However, the surplus of Ukraine's foreign trade in services grew by 13%, to US$2.937 billion.

The State Statistics Service recalls that its report does not include information from Russia-occupied Crimea, Sevastopol, and certain districts in Donetsk and Luhansk regions.

According to previously published estimates of the National Bank, the deficit of foreign trade in goods and services of Ukraine for January-June 2019 was estimated at US$4.358 billion, which was US$495 million, or 13%, up on the deficit for the same period of the previous year.

UNIAN memo. According to NBU estimates, the deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods and services in 2018 was US$11.492 billion, which was 32.9% more than the deficit in 2017. At the same time, the State Statistics Service of Ukraine estimated the deficit of the country's foreign trade in 2018 at US$5.826 billion, or 2.3 times up on the deficit for 2017.
