Ukraine sees decline in cattle, pig, sheep livestock as of Aug 1

At the same time, poultry population grew by 3.9%.

Livestock of cattle in Ukraine as of August 1, 2019, totaled 3.7 million head, which was 4.4% down from the figure posted as of August 1, 2018.

In particular, the number of cows stood at 1.9 million head, which was 4.4% down from the figure reported on August 1 last year, according to the State Statistics Service.

The number of pigs over the period under review decreased by 1.5%, to 6.4 million head, while the number of sheep and goats was down by 3.2%, to 1.5 million head.

However, poultry population increased by 2.9%, to 257.6 million head.

The report excludes information from temporarily occupied areas in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, the city of Sevastopol, and certain areas in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, it said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the livestock of cattle in Ukraine in 2018 fell by 4.3%, to 3.3 million head, while the number of cows decreased by 2.5% to 1.9 million head. The livestock of pigs fell by 2% to 5.9 million head, that of sheep and goats decreased by 3.1% to 1.2 million head, whereas the poultry population shrank by 2.9% to 210.78 million head.
