In particular, ASF cases were registered at the pig farm Halychyna-Zakhid in the village of Kavske on August 16, according to the agency's press service.

Lab tests conducted by experts confirmed the animals had been infected there.

A group of specialists from the Service headed by Ukraine's Chief State Veterinary Inspector Borys Kobal arrived at the site to coordinate efforts to limit the spread of ASF and eliminate the outbreaks.

Measures to contain and prevent the spread of the ASF pathogen are being taken.

As UNIAN reported earlier, a total of 36 ASF cases were registered in Ukraine in January-July 2019, including 24 cases among domestic animals and nine in the wild fauna. Infected objects were detected in three more cases. This was by 40% down year-over-year, the agency's press service said.

UNIAN memo. African swine fever (Montgomery disease) is a contagious viral disease of domestic and wild pigs. The disease bears no threat to humans. The virus is transmitted by direct contact between sick and healthy animals, through pork products, and also transmitted by ticks and mechanically (by vehicles during transportation of people and animals). There are no vaccines against the virus. Almost all infected pigs die. The virus is destroyed by heating to extremely high temperatures.
