Kyiv court opens case over minimum living wage established by Ukraine's Cabinet

Kyiv's District Administrative Court has opened proceedings in the lawsuit lodged by Ukrainian lawyer Stanislav Batryn against the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine regarding the establishment of a minimum living wage in the country.

"The Kyiv District Administrative Court has opened proceedings in the case of Stanislav Batryn's lawsuit against Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers. The plaintiff asks the court to recognize the government's actions unlawful, as the latter has not carried out and, accordingly, not taken into account the results of a scientific and public examination of the formed foodstuff sets, food products and relevant services when establishing the minimum living wage in Ukraine in 2019," the court's press service reported on August 19.

Batryn also demands that the Cabinet of Ministers establish a minimum living wage for 2019 in accordance with the provisions of the laws on the living wage and on state social standards and state social guarantees. Moreover, he demands that the Cabinet develop a bill and submit it for consideration by the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, to amend the law on the national budget for 2019, taking into account the above said requirements for the minimum living wage.

The court scheduled a preparatory hearing on the case for September 10, the report said.
