Ukrainian farmers thresh almost 38.7 mln tonnes of grain as of Aug 19

Besides, harvesting of late crops - buckwheat, millet and sunflower, has started.

Ukrainian agrarians threshed 38.7 million tonnes of early grains from 9.9 million hectares (ha) as of August 19, 2019, which is 99% of the target forecast, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food reports.

"With regard to early grains and leguminous crops, farmers threshed 38.7 million tonnes of grains from 9.9 million hectares, or 99% of the forecast, with an average yield of 39.1 c/ha," the report says.

Besides, harvesting has started of late crops: buckwheat, millet, and sunflower, the press service reports.

As of Aug 19, farmers threshed 1,000 tonnes of buckwheat from 1,000 ha, or 2% of the forecast, with an average yield of 12.9 c/ha; 19,000 tonnes of millet from 10,000 ha, or 12% of the forecast, with an average yield of 18 c/ha; 3,000 tonnes of sunflower from 2,000 ha with an average yield of 13.8 c/ha.

In addition, farmers harvested 3.1 million tonnes of rapeseed from 1.25 million hectares (99%) with an average yield of 24.9 c/ha.

Also, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, in 20 regions of Ukraine, a sowing campaign is underway of winter rape for the 2020 crop. Some 347,000 ha has already been sown, which is 32% of the forecast.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian farmers on May 2 completed a campaign to sow early spring crops on 2.1 million ha.

In 2018, Ukraine harvested a record high yield of grains, having threshed 70.1 million tonnes.

Ukraine's national meteorological service in its outlook said Ukraine in 2019 should expect high yield of cereals and legumes, while record harvest was hindered by a heat wave that struck Ukraine this June.
