Energy minister: Ukraine does not supply electricity to occupied Donbas

Ukraine is not supplying electricity to the militant-occupied territories of the Donbass, and natural gas supplies are currently insignificant, Minister of Energy and Coal Industry Volodymyr Demchyshyn said during the regular Hour of Questions for the Government in parliament on Friday.

As previously reported by UNIAN, Ukraine supplied on a free-of-charge basis natural gas worth of UAH 9 billion to the area of antiterrorist operation implementation in the Donbas from September 2014 to March 2015.

The Ministry of Energy and Coal Mining of Ukraine has approved a list of power plants that are located in areas controlled by the pro-Russian terrorists that will be excluded from the settlements system.

According to the ministry’s document, the plants in the ATO area are: Starobeshivska TPP ("Donbasenergo"), Zuyivska TPP (DTEK owned by a businessman Rinat Akhmetov), Zuyivska experimental combined heat and power plant, power-supply facilities of Donetsk metallurgical plant, Yasinovka coke plant, Alchevsk coke plant, Horlivka coke plant, Makeyivka steel plant, Alchevsk iron and steel plant, Yenakievo steel plant, Makiyivka coke plant, JSC Silur, power-supply facilities of Stirol concern (owned by a businessman Dmytro Firtash), Cargill and Ukrsplav.

On February 18, Prime Minister Arseniy Yatseniuk ordered the suspension of payments for electricity generated by power plants in the ATO area.
