Ukrainian farmers thresh 39.4 mln tonnes of grains as of Aug 30

Ukraine's agrarian ministry says farmers have harvested a total of 39.4 million tonnes of grains and legumes from 10 million hectares, or 66% of the target, as of Aug 30.

In particular, the farmers collected 39.2 mln tonnes of early grains and legumes from 9.9 mln ha, which is 99.9% of the forecast; 13,000 tonnes of buckwheat from 10,000 ha (15% of the target); 74,000 tonnes of millet from 40,000 ha (44% of the forecast); 492,000 tonnes of sunflower from 281,000 ha (5% of the forecast); and 96,000 of soybeans from 43,000 ha (3% of the forecast).

In addition, the ministry says, as of today, 740,000 tonnes of winter rapeseed has already been sown for the 2020 crop, which is 69% of the target. The process is ongoing.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on May 2, Ukrainian farmers completed early spring crop sowing campaign at 2.1 million hectares.

Grain harvest in 2018 amounted to a record 70.1 million tonnes.

According to the national weather watchdog, Ukraine in 2019 should expect high yields of grains and legumes, while the heat in June prevented record volumes.
