National Police say they have exposed the "scheme" for the embezzlement of state funds by Ukrenergo officials.
Raids are ongoing at the premises of Ukrenergo, Ukraine's national power grid operator, as well as homes of a number of managers.
National police say they exposed the "scheme" for embezzlement of state funds by officials of the state-owned company, as reported on the national police website.
"In the framework of criminal proceedings, the facts of criminal activity of officials of the energy company during the competitive bidding for the procurement of goods, services, and equipment were established and documented. According to preliminary data, damage inflicted amounts to over UAH 40 million," the report says.
Operatives of the Department of Economic Security, investigators of the Main Investigation Department of the National Police under the procedural leadership of the Prosecutor General's Office are carrying out authorized searches in Kyiv, Lviv as well as Kyiv region at the offices and places of residence of persons involved in illegal activities.

Pre-trial investigation is underway.
As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrenergo said the National Police were searching the company HQ, seizing documents. The company is probed over possible irregularities in the procurement of goods and services since 2016.
According to the company statement, searches were also being conducted in homes of five senior and middle-level managers of Ukrenergo, heads of regional centers for the construction and procurement of separate regional divisions of the company.
The criminal case was opened in October 2018, the report says.
