NBU allows banks IDying residents using passports for foreign travel

A passport of a citizen of Ukraine for foreign travel can from now be used by residents to confirm their identity in banks, along with a national passport for internal use.

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) has allowed banking institutions to identify Ukrainian residents based on their passports for foreign travel.

That is according to the State Migration Service of Ukraine, referring to NBU letter No. Р/25-0006/45577 dated Sept 4, 2019, the Ukrainian news outlet Hromadske wrote on Sept 8.

"Data on a resident's 'patronymic name' which is not available in their passport of a citizen of Ukraine for foreign travel can be established by banks based on other official documents, in particular a taxpayer's account card with the assigned registration number," they migration service said.

According to NBU, a passport of a citizen of Ukraine for foreign travel can from now be used by residents to confirm their identity in banks, along with a national passport for internal use.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the National Bank of Ukraine continued easing its monetary policy, cutting the key rate to 16.5% on Sept 6 after lowering it to 17% in July.
