Gas imports to Ukraine hit all-time high

In July, Ukraine reached 100% of its GTS's technical capacity, having imported 66.3 mcm of gas per day.

Head of Ukrainian GTS Operator Serhiy Makogon says gas imports to Ukraine reached 69.1 million cubic meters (mcm) per day, which exceeds the historical high and 100% of Ukraine's gas transmission system's (GTS) technical capacity.

"Gas imports to Ukraine reached 69.1 mcm. This is a new historic high," he wrote on Facebook on September 9.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukraine reached 100% of its GTS's technical capacity in July, having imported 66.3 mcm of gas per day.

Naftogaz of Ukraine plans to have significantly increased gas reserves in the country's underground storage facilities by the forthcoming heating season, up to 20 billion cubic meters (bcm), to level the negative consequences of a possible termination of Russia's gas transit via Ukraine from January 1, 2020.

By the start of the 2018-2019 heating season, Ukraine had accumulated 17.2 bcm of gas in its underground storage facilities, which was a record high natural gas stock over the past six years.

Ukraine in 2018 reduced natural gas imports by 24.6%, or 3.46 bcm, from 2017, to 10.59 bcm.

In late November 2015, Ukraine stopped purchasing natural gas from Russia's Gazprom.
