Ukrainian farmers thresh almost 40 mln tonnes of grain as of Sept 9

In 15 Ukrainian regions, farmers have started harvesting maize.

Ukrainian agrarians threshed 39.7 million tonnes of early grains from 10 million hectares (ha) as of September 9, 2019, which is 66% of the target forecast.

In particular, the farmers collected 39.2 million tonnes of early grains and legumes from 9.96 million ha, which is 99.9% of the forecast; 29,000 tonnes of buckwheat from 46,000 ha (32% of the target); 110,000 tonnes of millet from 58,000 ha (64% of the forecast); and 2.5 million tonnes of sunflower from 1.2 million ha (21% of the forecast), the Agrarian Policy and Food Ministry's press service said.

In addition, the farmers from 15 Ukrainian regions have started harvesting maize: 281,000 tonnes of grain have already been threshed from 46,000 ha, or 1% of the forecast.

The press service noted that the highest yield of grains and leguminous crops this year was recorded in Odesa and Zaporizhia regions (3.1 million tonnes each), Kharkiv region (2.9 million tonnes), Dnipropetrovsk region (2.7 million tonnes), and Mykolaiv region (2.6 million tonnes).

As UNIAN reported, on May 2, Ukrainian farmers completed planting early spring crops, having sown 2.1 million hectares.

Grain harvest in Ukraine in 2018 amounted to a record 70.1 million tonnes.
