China has included Ukraine in the process of creating a unified system of infrastructure and trade routes in Eurasia, which should unite the eastern and western parts of the continent and become a version of the Great Silk Road in the 21st century, according to a statement made by Chinese Ambassador in Ukraine Zhang Siyun at a business forum in Kyiv.
"A few days ago, I handed to the Ukrainian government a document referring to China's ‘One Belt and One Road’ initiative, including joint discussion, construction and development of infrastructure and trade routes. In addition, I presented the main idea of engaging other countries’ strategies in the ‘One Belt and One Road’ initiative, and provided specific cooperation projects in the political sphere, infrastructure and financial flows," the ambassador said.
According to Zhang, Ukraine is an important partner for China in view of its geographical location, as well as scientific and industrial potential.
As UNIAN reported earlier, China will provide Ukraine with the loan worth a total of $15 billion to implement programs for affordable housing.
In addition, Ukraine and China have signed an agreement on economic and technological cooperation, which will allow Ukraine to attract grant aid from the Government of China in the amount of 50 million yuan (about $8.2 million).
Ukraine has established cooperation with China in many areas, such as agriculture, transport, medicine. In 2011, the Ukrainian-Chinese relations were formalized by joint declaration on strategic partnership. The cooperation between the two states is based on the program on development of relations for the years 2014-2018.
