Deputy Governor of the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) Serhiy Kholod says the regulator may allow the postponement of the introduction of the international bank account number (IBAN) for two months, until January 1, 2020.

"The final meeting will be held in September, before October 1. Banks will be notified if there are 'migration' blocking factors to the full use of IBAN in the entire banking system, including the treasury, from November 1," he said at a roundtable in Kyiv on Sept 10.

According to the official, the deadline for a full transition to the IBAN system may be postponed for two months, until January 1, 2020.

"Now the decision has not been made yet. Therefore, the previous resolution is in force, which requires everyone to switch to using only IBAN from November 1. But there is a chance of such a 'migration' for two months, that is, lengthening the term," Kholod added.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the National Bank obliged Ukrainian banks to open new accounts to their customers, using international bank account numbers from August 5.

From November 1, the use of IBANs will be mandatory for customers of all banks in Ukraine to carry out money transfers.
