At the same time, cheese exports in August has risen by 76.7% from July since Russia opened transit corridors for Ukrainian goods, which allowed boosting trade with the CIS.

"The decline in foreign trade this year is due to a reduction in cattle stock, shortage of milk in the processing sector, falling world prices of some exported goods, and the strengthening national currency [the hryvnia]," the press service said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, in June 2019, Ukraine boosted dairy exports by 4.9% y-o-y, to $25.7 million.

Ukraine exported 8,000 tonnes of cheese in 2018, which was 8% down against 2017. Cheese imports into Ukraine in the past year soared by 37%, to 13,700 tonnes, according to customs statistics reports.
