Yatseniuk: About 90% of Ukrainians received applications for utilities subsidies

"The statistics are not bad. According to our data, according to the hotline, a total of 90% of Ukrainians have already received application forms and declarations for subsidies," he said.

"Another 10% of Ukrainians will get these documents immediately," Yatseniuk said.

During the conference call, the prime minister checked the hotline on subsidies and, without revealing his name and post, personally received answers to questions that interested him.

"And I will check these hotlines in all regions of Ukraine," he said.

According to Yatseniuk, the procedure for granting subsidies has been simplified by a decision of the government. While it was required to answer 90 questions earlier, now the package of documents will be a simple declaration form and an application form.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the government decision to raise utility tariffs to economic levels was one of the conditions of the reform program of oil and gas sector of Ukraine and the abolition of the previous system of cross-subsidization of a key country’s monopolist Naftogaz Ukrainy. This condition is also the main under the program of cooperation between Ukraine and its main creditor, the International Monetary Fund.

The increase in tariffs is accompanied by the introduction of a new system of subsidies to the population. In 2015 it amounted to UAH 24.5 billion, which is an unprecedented sum for Ukraine.

In addition, the government has simplified the procedure for granting subsidies: the consumer has to fill an application form and the income statement, and then send these documents to social security officers, who will calculate and set subsidies on the basis of the information for a period of 12 months.

The verification of the data will be done after the calculation of the subsidies, and the submission of false information may result in a fine of double the amount of the accrued subsidies.
