Ukraine's Cabinet proposes higher minimum living wage in 2020

The government sets the minimum living wage for the main social and demographic groups.

Ukraine's Cabinet of Ministers proposes that the minimum monthly living wage in the draft national budget for 2020 be increased to UAH 2,118 (US$85.54) per capita from July 1 and to UAH 2,189 (US$88.40) from December 1.

The minimum living wage will reach UAH 2,027 (US$81.86) on January 1, 2020, instead of December 1, 2019, stipulated in the 2019 national budget, according to the draft national budget for 2020, posted on the Verkhovna Rada's website.

In addition, the government sets the minimum living wage for the main social and demographic groups.

In particular, the minimum living wage for children under six years is set at UAH 1,779 (US$71.84) from January 1, 2020, at UAH 1,859 (US$75.08) from July 1, 2020, and UAH 1,921 (US$77.58) from December 1, 2020. The sum for children from six to 18 years is fixed at UAH 2,218 (US$89.57), UAH 2,318 (US$93.61), and UAH 2,395 (US$96.72), respectively.

The minimum living wage for able-bodied people in Ukraine will be UAH 2,102 (US$84.89), UAH 2,197 (US$88.73), and UAH 2,270 (US$91.68), respectively, whereas the sum for a disabled person will grow to UAH 1,638 (US$66.15), UAH 1,712 (US$69.14), and UAH 1,769 (US$71.44).

"The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine should take decisive steps to approximate the size of the minimum living wage in 2020 to its real value at about UAH 4,251 [US$171.68] with a corresponding adjustment for the main social and demographic groups," the draft national budget for 2020 said.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the draft national budget for 2020 provided for an increase in the minimum wage to UAH 4,723 (US$190.75).
