Most Ukrainians support de-shadowing of amber mining – poll

Most Ukrainians (66%) support efforts taken by the authorities to bring amber mining out of the shadows, while almost half of respondents (47%) speak out in favor of the legalization of gambling, according to the findings of a poll conducted by the Razumkov Center sociological service.

"Some 66% of respondents support the adoption of the [draft] law introduced by the Ukrainian president on the de-shadowing and legalization of amber production by December 1, 2019 (14% do not support it)," the service said in a statement.

In addition, 47% of Ukrainians support the president's proposal regarding the adoption of a draft law on the de-shadowing and legalization of gambling in the country by December 1, 2019, while 34% do not support it.

UNIAN memo. The study was conducted by the Razumkov Center sociological service on September 6-11, 2019. A total of 2,018 respondents aged 18 and older were interviewed in all regions of Ukraine, except for Crimea and the occupied areas in Donetsk and Luhansk regions, where the adult population selected in keeping with key social and demographic indicators was interviewed.

The sample of the poll was multi-stage and random with a quota selection of respondents at the last stage. The theoretical margin of error (excluding the design effect) does not exceed 2.3% with a 0.95% probability.

As UNIAN reported earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as part of efforts to bring the country's economy out of the shadows, instructed the government and the parliamentary majority on September 2 to draft laws on the legalization of gambling and amber mining by October 1, 2019, and pass them before December 1, 2019.
