Privatbank nationalization one of Ukraine's most difficult decisions – Danyliuk

The NSDC secretary also noted that the Privatbank case is not a "political" one.

Nationalization of Privatbank back in 2016 was one of the most difficult decisions made by the Ukrainian state, so it must be professionally upheld, says Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council, ex-Minister of Finance of Ukraine Oleksandr Danyliuk.

"Firstly, there is no need to make biased decisions. The case of Privatbank is not a political one," Danyliuk told a TV panel show Savik Shuster's Freedom of Speech, Segodnya reports.

"What should we ensure as authorities? First of all, it's that the courts independently and reasonably, without external influence, consider all cases that are out there and issue their rulings; that there is trust and that no one influences these courts," the NSDC secretary added.

He called this a "test" for the authorities, as well as their "responsibility."

"Secondly, it is our responsibility to ensure that all crimes that we have witnessed in the last month are exposed and those who committed these crimes are punished. This is also a test for the authorities. Otherwise, why need law enforcement agencies, state courts if they fail to do their job?" Danyliuk said.

He noted that the nationalization and refinancing of Privatbank for UAH 155 billion is being positioned by many as a PR for the authorities.

"But when it comes to such large amounts, this is not PR. This is one of the most difficult decisions that the state made in its time. This decision must be professionally upheld. And this is also a test – to do everything professionally so that there is trust on the part of Ukrainian citizens in the actions of the authorities. And I'm sure that we will pass it, "assured the former minister of finance.
