Chairman of the State Tax Service of Ukraine Serhiy Verlanov says as of September 2019, the accrued value added tax (VAT) for August 2019 stood at UAH 19.8 billion (US$820.9 million), which was 17.2% up from UAH 16.9 billion ($700.7 million) reported year-over-year (y-o-y).

Tax authorities managed to achieve such results thanks to hard analytical work and efficient control over the "minimizer" sector, including companies that are used for conversion.

"Persistent analytical work already allows bringing billions to the national budget, without 'raids', 'pressure' on taxpayers, and shameful 'planned fines,' Verlanov wrote on Facebook on September 26.

"We are doing utmost so that the new Tax Service will operate as a real service agency with high-quality tax administration. Even the first steps in this direction are already showing greater efficiency than that of the old structure," the official summed up.

According to the STS, tax charges over the period in 2019 increased by 12.8%, or UAH 17.5 billion ($725.5 million), y-o-y, from UAH 135.1 billion ($5.6 billion) to UAH 152.6 billion ($6.3 billion).
