CEO of NJSC Naftogaz of Ukraine Andriy Kobolyev says that extending the current gas transit contract with Russia from January 1, 2020, is not interesting.
"It's hard for me to imagine why the new GTS [Gas Transport System] operator, why the Ukrainian side might be interested in extending the old contract. If the Russian side says they want some other conditions, other volumes, then it's logical for us to take a position, and we take it, that it should be only a new contract, only under European law, only with a new operator," Kobolyev said during the Ukrainian Gas Forum in Kyiv on October 9.

He noted that in this regard, it is critical to maintain the trilateral format of the Ukraine-EU-Russia negotiations.
The current contract is expiring on December 31, 2019.
