"The provision of assistance was confirmed by the Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan Kentaro Sonoura on the eve of his visit to Kyiv," Zalishchuk wrote.

Zalishchuk also noted that Japan is concerned about the effectiveness of controls over the use of international aid funds and the progress in anti-corruption measures taken by the government of Ukraine.

"We discussed the new anti-corruption legislation, the Anti-Corruption Bureau and the struggle against the oligarchs. At the same time, both sides acknowledge that these are only tools, and whether the goal is reached will be clear with the course of the time," the deputy notes.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the government of Japan decided to provide assistance to Ukraine worth about $1.5 billion, of which $1.1 billion was granted in the form of a loan provided for the modernization of Kyiv’s Bortnichi aeration station.
