Ukrainian Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture Tymofiy Mylovanov says Ukraine has a chance to make an economic breakthrough, but much needs to be done first.

"We are on the verge of an economic breakthrough. This was felt at all meetings [of a Ukrainian delegation] in the U.S. People, businesses, investors, and officials look with interest at Ukraine, and everyone recognizes the new government's ability to change the country. Their expectations are high, but everyone is willing to take a closer look and make sure of this," he wrote on Facebook on October 20.

Mylovanov identified four issues the public and businesses abroad are interested in and which Ukraine needs to solve for successful economic development. First, how independently the new government makes decisions and whether there is a shadow government, which comes into play at critical moments. Secondly, whether there will be judicial and law enforcement agencies reforms, so that they do not remain under the control of the new government and special interests, as has always happened. Thirdly, how seriously the new government is going to fight against bank owners who have inflicted losses on taxpayers and bank customers. Fourth, whether the rules of the game will be the same for everyone, including de-monopolization and de-oligarchization in Ukraine.

"I assured everyone of the positive solution to these four issues. But they want to wait and make sure that this is true. If we convince the world of Ukraine's rapid development, we will be 'flooded' with investment, and we will finally become successful. We have such a chance," the minister summed up.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the World Bank had raised its forecast for economic growth in Ukraine in 2020 to 3.7%, from the previously projected indicator at about 3%.
