EIB to increase amount of loans to Ukraine to EUR 3 bln by the end of 2016

Further progress of reforms in Ukraine depends to a large extent on continued support from all international partners and financial institutions, Ukrainian Finance Minister Natalia Jaresko has said.

In 2014, the amount of loans received from the EIB in 2014 totaled EUR 940 million as a part of an unprecedented EIB total loan portfolio of EUR 3 billion to be provided to Ukraine by the end of 2016, the minister wrote on her page on Facebook.

The minister said that the Ukrainian government appreciates timely and comprehensive support from international partners, including the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank.

She also noted that further progress of reforms in Ukraine greatly depends on the continued support of all international partners and financial institutions.

"In this respect we encourage the EBRD and EIB to provide a further extension of their financing for Ukraine," Jaresko added.

The European Investment Bank was established in 1957, its shareholders are 27 countries of the European Union. The main task of the bank is to promote the goal of the European Union by long-term financing of reliable investment projects. The authorized capital is formed from the contributions of the member-states amounting to EUR 273 billion as of the end of 2013.

Over the past five years the EIB portfolio of projects in Ukraine has increased fourfold. The bank finances projects in the energy, transport and municipal infrastructure sectors.
