Some 62 mln tonnes of grains already threshed in Ukraine

Ukrainian farmers threshed 62 million tonnes of cereals and legumes from ​​13.5 million hectares, or 88% of the forecast, that's as of October 24, the press service of the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food said.

In particular,21.9 million tonnes of maize has been harvested from ​​3.2 million ha (66% of the target) with an average yield of 67.3 c/ha; 86,000 tonnes of buckwheat from ​​65,000 ha (95%) with a yield of 13.3 c/ha; and 152,000 tonnes of millet from ​​81,000 ha (90%) with a yield of 18.7 c/ha.

In addition, 13.5 million tonnes of sunflower seeds was harvested from an area of ​​5.6 million ha, or 95% of the forecast; 3.4 million tonnes of soybeans from ​​1.5 million ha (94%); and 6.5 million tonnes of sugar beet from ​​149,000 ha (68%).

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, along with grain harvesting, autumn sowing work is underway.

As of October 24, 6.6 million tonnes of winter grains has been sown, or 91% of the target.

In particular, winter wheat – on 5.7 million ha (91% of the forecast); rye – on 117,000 ha (96%); winter barley – on 834,000 ha (91%); and winter rapeseed – on 1.1 million ha (99%).

As UNIAN reported earlier, the harvest of grains and leguminous crops in Ukraine in 2018 amounted to a record 70.1 million tonnes. According to the ministry's forecast, in 2019 it may increase by 1.5% on year and reach 71.1 million tonnes.
