National Joint-Stock Company Naftogaz of Ukraine is set to attract Dutch-based Holland Van Gijzen Advocaten en Notarissen (HVG Law LLP), in particular, to hire its lawyers for EUR 350,000, to provide legal support for the company's restructuring related to the unbundling of the gas transmission system (GTS).

Naftogaz Tender Committee decided to conclude a contract with HVG Law LLP for a period until the end of 2020, according to the ProZorro public e-procurement system.

The Dutch company will have to provide legal services on issues related to the Naftogaz unbundling procedure to fulfill the requirements for the GTS operator's unbundling and independence in line with the law of Ukraine on the Natural Gas Market and European Union law.

HVG Law LLP will also be tasked with helping the company in the process of attracting a qualified partner to manage the  GTS.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on October 18, the Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, passed at the first reading a bill on the unbundling of the gas transmission system from Naftogaz with the GTS remaining wholly owned by the state.

The establishment of a new legal entity and the involvement of a European partner in its management are necessary for European companies to be able to buy gas on the eastern border of Ukraine and transfer it to the European market, preserving transit volumes after the existing contract with Russia's Gazprom expires.
