Audits of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry have revealed hundreds of millions of hryvnias worth of losses, the director of internal audit and financial control department of the Defense Ministry of Ukraine, Maryna Barynina, said at a briefing in Kyiv on Wednesday.
Barynina said that during January-April the internal audit service conducted 158 on-site checks, including 120 audits.
In 62 subordinated entities, comprising 52% of those covered by the audit, there were violations that led to losses and damage worth UAH 382.85 million, with only UAH 36.55 million of the amount being recovered.
Barynina also added that the audit helped prevent illegal property losses worth UAH 1.3 million. A total of 371 persons were punished, including 188 persons who were fined and 183 against whom disciplinary actions were taken. Evidence revealing losses and damages worth a total of UAH 313.9 million have been submitted for consideration by the law enforcement bodies.
Barynina said that based on results of the operational audits and monitoring of risky operations, it had been possible to prevent losses or damages worth almost UAH 200 million.
