Economy minister forecasts record high grain harvest in Ukraine in 2019

Ukrainian agrarians may produce 28.1 million tonnes of wheat, which is 3.5 million tonnes up against 2018.

Ukrainian Minister of Economic Development, Trade and Agriculture Tymofiy Mylovanov says Ukraine is expected (according to preliminary estimates) to harvest 74 million tonnes of grains in 2019, which is 4 million tonnes up from 2018.

That's including "28.1 million tonnes of wheat (3.5 million tonnes up), 35 million tonnes of maize for grain (0.8 million tonnes down), 8.9 million tonnes of barley (1.6 million tonnes up)," he wrote on Facebook on November 12.

Mylovanov says Ukrainian agrarians will produce 333,000 tonnes of rye (60,000 tonnes up), 444,000 tonnes of oats (26,000 tonnes up), 572,000 tonnes of peas (203,000 tonnes down), 85,000 tonnes of buckwheat (52,000 tonnes down), 165,000 tonnes of millet (84,000 tonnes up), and 63,000 tonnes of rice (6,000 tonnes down).

With regard to industrial crops, the harvest of sugar beets may shrink by 4.2 million tonnes to 9.8 million tonnes, while that of soybeans – by 827,000 tonnes, to 3.6 million tonnes. Sunflower yield will remain at 14.2 million tonnes, whereas rapeseed harvest will grow by 472,000 tonnes, up to 3.2 million tonnes, the minister said.

According to Mylovanov, potato output will drop by 2.2 million tonnes in 2019, to 20.3 million tonnes, while that of vegetables will slide by 575,000 tonnes, to 8.9 million tonnes.

As UNIAN reported earlier, grain harvest in 2018 amounted to a record 70.1 million tonnes, according to the ministry.

In total, Ukraine harvested 9.4 million tonnes of vegetables in 2018.
