Ukraine's parliament passes farmland land in first reading

The Verkhovna Rada, Ukraine's parliament, has passed in the first reading a government/alternative bill "On amending certain legislative acts of Ukraine concerning the turnover of agricultural land," which introduces the land market in Ukraine since 2020.

Relevant bill No. 2178-10 was backed by 240 MPs with the required minimum of 226 votes, according to an UNIAN correspondent.

As UNIAN reported earlier, on September 26, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine submitted to the Verkhovna Rada a bill "On Amending Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine Concerning Farmland Turnover", which allows the purchase of land by foreigners after they set up a Ukraine-registered legal entity.

On October 18, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Agrarian and Land Policy recommended that the parliament adopt an alternative bill that does not allow legal entities whose ultimate beneficiaries are foreigners to buy land before January 1, 2024.
