Ukraine's oil pipeline operator JSC Ukrtransnafta says it has received EUR 4.1 million from Russia's Transneft as compensation for the supply of crude oil contaminated with organic chlorides to the Ukrainian sector of the Druzhba oil pipeline from May to November 2019.

"The amount of payments is determined within the existing contractual relations and depends on the balance of the low-quality Russian oil in Ukrainian pipelines as of the first day of every month," Ukrtransnafta's press service wrote on Facebook on November 13.

The company added that the amount of compensation is not final since Transneft continues to reserve Ukrtransnafta's capacities.

As UNIAN reported earlier, the transit of oil through the territory of Ukraine was temporarily stopped on the evening of April 25 after European consumers had refused to accept Russian contaminated oil.

On May 11, Ukrtransnafta resumed oil transit to European consumers via the Druzhba main oil pipeline.

However, on May 17, the company had to suspend the transit of Russian oil to the European Union as the European side needed to get prepared for handling contaminated Russian oil for storing it in its tanks.

On May 21, Ukrtransnafta resumed oil transit to European consumers via the Druzhba main oil pipeline. As of July 31, Ukrtransnafta received EUR 2.3 million from Russia's Transneft as compensation for contaminated oil that entered the Ukrainian pipeline network.
