Deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods, services 6% up in Jan-Sept

The deficit of foreign trade in commodities over the period under review grew by 8%.

The deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods and services in January-September 2019 was estimated at US$4.072 billion, which was 6% up from the deficit reported year-over-year (y-o-y).

Imports of goods and services to Ukraine rose by 7%, to US$48.914 billion, while exports of goods and services from Ukraine also grew by 7%, to US$44.842 billion, according to the State Statistics Service's website.

In particular, the deficit of foreign trade in commodities over the period under review grew by 8%, to US$7.099 billion, while the surplus of foreign trade in services rose by 7%, to US$4.228 billion.

The State Statistics Service said the report does not include data from Russia-occupied areas in Crimea, Sevastopol and parts of Luhansk and Donetsk regions.

The National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) previously reported that the deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods and services in January-September 2019 was estimated at US$8.504 billion, which was 5% up from the deficit it reported y-o-y.

As UNIAN reported earlier, citing the NBU, the deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods and services in 2018 totaled US$11.492 billion, which was 32.9% up from the deficit posted in 2017.

The State Statistics Service in turn estimated the deficit of Ukraine's foreign trade in goods and services in 2018 at US$5.826 billion, which was 2.3 times up against the deficit recorded in 2017.
